Switch of Ramstein management to UK and Germany was deliberate by US – US defence secretary

America’ resolution to relinquish management of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group within the Ramstein format to the UK and Germany was deliberate from the outset of the brand new US administration.

Particulars: Hegseth instructed reporters that the switch of management of the Ramstein format to Germany and the UK had been deliberate by the US since President Donald Trump’s administration took workplace.

"From the very starting of this administration, we labored with our British and German counterparts for them to take the lead of that contact group, which they’ve executed. And I respect that," Hegseth mentioned.

He added that the US continues to take part within the Ramstein format, noting that the US was represented on the 4 June assembly by US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.

"I imagine you had been on the assembly?" Hegseth requested Whitaker.

"I’m in any respect the conferences, sure," the diplomat replied.

"We’ve undoubtedly been at that assembly and made a contribution," the US defence secretary concluded.

  • It was beforehand reported that Hegseth didn’t attend the Ramstein format assembly at NATO Headquarters on 4 June.
  • On 4 June, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, commenting on the potential risk to US forces from enemy drones and Ukraine’s particular operation Spider’s Internet, said that the US was studying classes from Russia’s conflict of aggression in opposition to Ukraine.
