Polish researchers working in Ecuador have found a brand new species of tardigrade and named it after Bizhan Sharopov, a Ukrainian biologist and soldier who was killed in motion in 2022.

A group of scientists from the colleges of Poznań and Gdańsk just lately described a number of new tardigrade species found in Ecuador within the journal Plos.One.
Certainly one of them – Macrobiotus sharopovi – was named in honour of Hero of Ukraine Bizhan Sharopov.

Sharopov graduated from the biology programme on the Nationwide College of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. He was an lively participant within the Revolution of Dignity and served within the Aidar battalion in 2014-2015.
After being demobilised, he defended his PhD thesis and continued his scientific work.
From 2019 to 2021, Sharopov chaired the Council of Younger Scientists on the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology and was a researcher on the Division of Neuromuscular Physiology on the similar institute, in addition to the chief biologist at Ukrainian Genetic Applied sciences.
Initially of Russia's full-scale invasion, Sharopov returned to the entrance as a part of the 112th Territorial Defence Brigade. He went lacking in motion in April 2022.
