Zelenskyy submits invoice to parliament on independence of anti-corruption companies

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted a draft regulation to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) regarding the powers of the Nationwide Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Workplace (SAPO).

Particulars: Earlier, Zelenskyy said that he had already accredited the textual content of a brand new invoice geared toward "strengthening" the independence of the anti-corruption companies and that he would submit it to the parliament on Thursday.

Background:

  • On 21 July, staff of the Safety Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor Common's Workplace performed roughly 70 searches focusing on 15 staff of the Nationwide Anti-Corruption Bureau in varied oblasts of Ukraine. The safety forces didn’t have courtroom warrants to hold out the searches.
  • The NABU detectives have been charged with treason, unlawful commerce with Russia, and corruption within the pursuits of oligarchs. In the meantime, the State Bureau of Investigations has stepped up its efforts wanting into supplies on street accidents involving NABU staff that occurred a number of years in the past.

  • Following this, Zelenskyy has pledged to submit a draft regulation to the Verkhovna Rada that can "empower the regulation enforcement system" and protect "all provisions obligatory for the independence of anti-corruption establishments".
