ATLANTA (AP) The Los Angeles Angels positioned rookie second baseman Christian Moore on the 10-day injured checklist with a sprained left thumb on Thursday.
Moore left the Angels’ 8-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday evening with the damage. Moore suffered the damage when he dove for Ozzie Albies floor ball within the sixth inning. Moore’s hand bent awkwardly when he hit the bottom.
Angels interim supervisor Ray Montgomery mentioned he was grateful Moore wouldn’t require surgical procedure, although he wouldn’t put a timetable on how a lot time the rookie could miss.
Anytime you see any person like him have an damage like that, you worry the worst, Montgomery mentioned, including the hope Moore could miss two weeks could also be trying on the best-case situation.
Moore, a 2024 first-round draft decide from Tennessee, was hitting .189 in 53 at-bats following his promotion to the Angels on June 13.
Infielder Chad Stevens, whose contract was chosen from Triple-A Salt Lake, moved into the beginning lineup at second base on Thursday evening in his main league debut.
He’s been taking part in very well, Montgomery mentioned of Stevens. He’s completed the whole lot he can do to earn this chance.
The 26-year-old Stevens was hitting .307 with 14 homers at Salt Lake.
The Angels launched right-hander Héctor Neris, who had a 7.80 ERA in 23 video games.
