ST. LOUIS (AP) James Wooden hit his twenty fourth homer, Nathaniel Lowe added a three-run shot and the Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-2 Wednesday evening to offer interim supervisor Miguel Cairo his first victory.
Cairo took over when Washington fired supervisor Dave Martinez and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo hour after a 6-4 loss to Boston on Sunday.
Wooden hit a solo homer within the seventh inning with an exit velocity of 115.9 mph that traveled 433 toes to middle area. Wooden has been named an All-Star and can participate within the House Run Derby.
Lowe staked Washington to a lead within the first inning along with his 14th homer of the season. The Nationals added three extra runs within the sixth on an RBI double by Alex Name and a bloop single with the bases loaded by Jacob Younger that scored two runs.
Amed Rosario hit a solo homer, his fifth, within the fifth inning, for a 7-1 lead. MacKenzie Gore (4-8) pitched six innings, giving up one run on 5 hits and a stroll whereas placing out seven because the Nationals snapped a four-game skid.
Andre Pallante (5-5) labored six innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with a stroll and a strikeout. Masyn Winn had three hits for the Cardinals.

Lowe’s 360-foot homer within the first inning wasn’t almost as prodigious as Wooden’s, but it surely gave the Nationals all of the runs they would want.
