European Parliament approves €90bn mortgage for Ukraine

On Wednesday 11 February, the European Parliament permitted a European Fee proposal to grant Ukraine a €90 billion mortgage to finance navy and budgetary expenditures.

Particulars: Members of the European Parliament permitted the mortgage for Ukraine for 2026-27 by 458 votes in favour, with 140 lawmakers voting towards and 44 abstaining.

The mortgage for Ukraine consists of €60 billion in navy help and €30 billion in budgetary help financed by EU borrowing.

The vote within the European Parliament had beforehand been scheduled for a particular plenary session convened on 24 February to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine however was moved to 11 February.
