Macron shows restored Notre Dame before official opening

The French president visited and showed the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The historical monument, restored for 700 million euros, will open to visitors on December 7.

Five years after a fire damaged Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the world has seen a historic French landmark for the first time. President Emmanuel Macron visited and showed the restored monument on Friday, sharing a video in X, writes UNN.

On November 29, eight days before the official opening, Macron invited the world to visit the renovated and renovated Notre Dame as part of a two-hour televised inspection tour. This is the first time that restoration work has been shown to the public, notes France 24.

When a fire broke out in a 12th-century Gothic masterpiece in 2019, Macron promised not only to restore it within five years, but also to make it "even more beautiful" than before, and this goal, according to the French authorities, was achieved.

About 250 companies and hundreds of experts were mobilized for the restoration at a cost of 700 million euros in net donations on the site, which has been dubbed the "construction site of the century".

All 2,000 people who contributed to the work were invited to the event on Friday, of which at least 1,300 people were expected to attend.

"This latest visit to the site is an opportunity to thank them in particular – from woodworkers to metal and stone craftsmen, from scaffolding makers to roofers, from Bell makers to art restorers, from Gilders to Masons and sculptors, from carpenters to organ makers, from architects, archaeologists, engineers and planners to logistics or administrative functions," Macron said before the visit.

Accompanied by his wife Brigitte, Macron was to explore key areas of the cathedral, including the nave, choir and Chapel.

Notre-Dame Cathedral, which lost its famous Spire in a fire, is scheduled to open on December 7.
