Background:
- On 14 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he had signed a decree regarding "people [who] maintain Russian citizenship", with out disclosing any names.
- Nonetheless, Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne confirmed through authorities sources that Trukhanov was amongst these involved.
- Hennadii Trukhanov has served as Odesa mayor since 2014, when the primary reviews emerged alleging that he held Russian citizenship. Underneath Ukraine's legislation on native self-government, lack of citizenship is grounds for the early termination of a mayor's powers.
- Trukhanov denied holding Russian citizenship and known as the choice to strip him of Ukrainian citizenship a "falsification". He stated he’ll file a lawsuit in courtroom.
