Ukrainian rescue staff proceed to cope with aftermath of Russian strike on Chornobyl Nuclear Energy Plant

Ukrainian emergency staff have been coping with the aftermath of a Russian drone strike on the containment construction of Unit No 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Energy Plant for eight days now.

Particulars: Rescue staff who’re climbers are at present engaged in efforts to partially open the containment buildings and extinguish a smouldering space on the north aspect of the arch.

The State Emergency Service has reported that drones geared up with thermal imaging cameras and rescue staff with handheld thermal imagers are always monitoring the accident website.

The radiation background is regular and doesn’t pose a risk to the inhabitants.

Background: On the evening of 14 February, a Russian loitering munition carrying a high-explosive incendiary warhead hit the containment construction of Chornobyl NPP Unit No 4.
