Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accepted an invite to attend the ceremonial launch of Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union ( 1 January – 30 June 2026), which is about to happen on 7 January within the Cypriot capital, Nicosia.

"President Zelenskyy is predicted in Nicosia on 7 January for the opening ceremony of our presidency", a supply advised European Pravda.
The supply stated that President Zelenskyy spoke with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides on 1 January, the day the Republic of Cyprus started its presidency of the Council of the EU.
After the decision, the Cyprus' president stated that the Ukrainian president "will attend the opening ceremony of Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, which is able to happen in Nicosia on 7 January".
