SBU probes alleged leak of Budanov’s statement on threat to Ukraine’s existence

The Safety Service of Ukraine (SBU) has launched a prison investigation following media stories alleging that Ukraine’s spy chief made an announcement a few menace to the nation’s existence throughout a closed-door parliamentary assembly, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Jan. 31, citing the SBU.

The case was opened below the authorized provision on the disclosure of state secrets and techniques.

Ukrainska Pravda revealed an article on Jan. 27 claiming that Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s army intelligence (HUR), warned of significant penalties for Ukraine’s existence if negotiations don’t start by the summer time.

The report, which cited an unnamed lawmaker who attended the assembly, didn’t specify what developments Budanov was allegedly referring to.

HUR denied the report, calling the alleged quote attributed to Budanov “false.”

The SBU stated the investigation entails people who had entry to the categorized session in parliament.
