Sikorsky on the ability to shoot down Russian missiles: it is a matter of agreements and discussion among allies

Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski discusses Ukraine's request to shoot down Russian missiles before they enter Polish airspace. The issue may be discussed with NATO allies.

Speaking about the possibility of shooting down Russian missiles, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that this is a matter of agreement and discussion among the allies, and it may be included in the agenda of the NATO ministers' talks next week. He said this in an interview with TVN24, according to UNN.

Sikorsky was asked about the possibility of shooting down Russian missiles flying towards Poland before they enter its territory, as requested by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“This discussion is about where the right to self-defense begins and ends. Do we have the right to shoot down such a missile only when it is already over our territory? Then there is no doubt about it, only that what happened in Przewodów could happen. The remnants of such a missile can cause damage, injure or kill someone,” Sikorsky said.

He said that on this Ukrainian request, “we can have honest differences of opinion.

“This is a matter of agreement and discussion among our allies. We have a new NATO Secretary General. Next week there will be a regular meeting of NATO ministers. Perhaps this issue will be included (in the agenda of the talks – ed.),” Sikorsky said.
