  • Sir Jim Ratcliffe slammed by Man Utd fans as mid-season INEOS call branded ‘offensive’

Sir Jim Ratcliffe slammed by Man Utd fans as mid-season INEOS call branded ‘offensive’

Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ decision to hike ticket prices during the season has been branded “offensive” by the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST).

United sent an email to members of the Fans Forum on Tuesday announcing the changes, which will mean remaining tickets for home games this season will all br priced at £66, no matter the age of the person buying them.

The email – seen by The Athletic – states that more than 97 per cent of tickets have already been sold, with five-age related discounts applied to those tickets, but have done away with those concessions to help improve ‘operational efficiencies’ and ‘stabilise revenues’.

The club also said all cancelled or donated season ticket holder tickets will now be sold at adult price and that they’re removing the 25 per cent discount for Europa League knockout games.

MUST are angry at the change and the lack of consultation involved and have issued a statement.

‘This means that for an adult member to take their kid to a game in the remainder of this season will cost £132. Well over double the minimum price they could pay to do it today. And this change is happening overnight, immediately.

‘The club has provided zero consultation on the matter, neither with the Forum nor the Fan Advisory Board nor MUST.

‘Suffice it to say, that the idea that the fans must pay their ‘fair share’ for the club’s excesses and/or mismanagement — and above all, the Glazers lack of investment over two decades — is offensive.

‘We fans have done everything we have been asked. We have cheered the players on even in the face of substandard performance. We have gone to matches and abided by the new usage rules for tickets. We have taken on a price increase this year.

‘There is a risk that this is only the opening salvo of what will surely be massive pressure to implement a significant price rise for next season. Once they have got used to charging £132 for a parent and child to come to Old Trafford, will they really go back to the old pricing levels for next season?

‘If the club has a need for short term capital they should issue new shares, as they did when INEOS first arrived, and bring in funding from existing or new shareholders.

‘We have objected to this action in the strongest possible terms, both for the action itself and the complete lack of consultation, which is a step backward based on the process we had agreed with the club before INEOS’ arrival.

‘Over the coming days MUST will be seeking urgent discussions with the club to get them to listen to fans’ concern at this policy. United fans have sucked up a lot. We will not be silent on this and we need to be prepared to resist any attempts to further drive up ticket prices.’

MUST also insist the 97 per cent figure is misleading as it does not take into account the season tickets that will be resold at the higher £66 price.

United’s email reads: “We appreciate we usually try to provide more notice of, if not consult around any changes, but this is something we have had to review quickly, not providing the usual opportunity for consultation.

“It was a difficult decision following recent changes at the club but ultimately the increased revenue will also support investment in the team and contribute to football success.”

Pressure group The 1958 have announced a peaceful protest in response to the ticket increases, set to be held at the Trinity Statue outside Old Trafford ahead of the Everton game on Sunday.

KNIISE experts investigate Russian weapons: in some cases, they identify up to 90% of foreign components

KNIISE is investigating Russian and Iranian weapons used against Ukraine. Some samples contain up to 90% of foreign components, including parts from Japan, China, and European countries.

The Kiev Research Institute of forensic expertise (KHNIISE) told about the details of the study of Russian and Iranian weapons used in the war against Ukraine. KNIISE experts are working on investigating parts and fragments of missiles, drones, and other weapons used by the enemy against Ukraine. Experts determine the type of weapon, the specifics of its use, identify foreign components that often fall into weapons, despite sanctions, and find out their Origin, writes UNN.

sanctions are valid, but not ideal

According to experts of the KNIISE military research laboratory, a significant part of the components of Russian missiles and drones are of foreign origin. According to them, in some cases, this number reaches 85-90% of the total number of parts.

"Among the latest research objects, the Russian x-69 cruise missile, which was adopted by the aggressor country only in 2023, was analyzed. So, Japanese — made components have already been identified in flight control and support systems," the experts noted.

Among other things, according to KNIISE, Russian kamikaze drones marked "Geranium 2" ("Shahed 136") use Chinese engines, Japanese bearings and Polish gas pumps. Therefore, as it turns out, even after the introduction of sanctions, Russia finds ways to receive components through third countries, or in the form of dual-use goods.

    "Shahed" — a technological mix

According to the Institute's experts, research shows that the Shahed kamikaze drones that Russia uses in the war against Ukraine have gone through several stages of modification.

In particular, the first models were based on Iranian components, many of which were manufactured on the basis of Chinese technologies. At the next stage, Russia began assembling drones from ready-made vehicle kits received from Iran, adding its own combat units.

The latest versions of Shahed-K drones are already manufactured in Russia, but with foreign components — from Chinese engines to Japanese bearings.

"On one of the last studied" Shahed " identified a carburetor made in Ireland. This part was officially purchased through a Chinese company that uses such components for agricultural machinery," KNIISE experts said.

North Korean missiles are a threat, but with restrictions

The Institute's specialists are also investigating Russia's use of North Korean KN-23/24 missiles.

"The peculiarity of this type of weapon is a powerful warhead, but their accuracy is very doubtful. In addition, we believe that significant gaps are observed in navigation systems themselves, which often do not work, which makes them less effective in the general context. However, this does not deny the fact of danger to Ukrainian citizens," the experts noted.

According to them, components of foreign origin were also found in these missiles, which indicates the importance of continuing to strengthen sanctions pressure and control.

Experts note that while sanctions work, many components for Russian weapons fall through third countries or circumvent restrictions. "It is important to track the origin of components and block such supply routes. For example, after the appeal of the Ukrainian side to Poland on the facts of identifying the components of Polish companies, a tangible result was achieved," the KNIISE stressed.

Ukrainian researchers continue to transfer the collected evidence to international partners, including for consideration in courts such as the Hague tribunal. This is an important step in the fight for justice and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia.

    Add

It is worth noting that the Russians are constantly trying to modify and modernize all the types of missiles and drones available to them, which are used for attacks on Ukraine. KNIISE specialists in the commentary UNN toldwhat features are being discussed and what role Western components play in changing enemy weapons. the enemy uses more than just western components. According to Alexander Ruvin, director of the Kiev Research Institute of forensic examinations, components for UAVs used by the enemy to attack Ukraine are supplied by about 50 manufacturers from China.

In addition, KNIISE experts have established that the Russian x-69 missiles used by the invaders to hit Ukraine are created from several types of weapons and have foreign componentsand.

Russia using bombers it received from Ukraine in 1999, RFE/RL reports

Russia actively uses at least six Tu-160-type bombers that Ukraine gave to Russia in 1999 as a payment of gas debt, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's (RFE/RL) Schemes' investigation showed on Nov. 26.

The investigation also identified pilots flying the planes and launching missile strikes against Ukraine. Russia regularly uses its strategic aviation to attack cities and infrastructure across Ukraine.

Ukraine handed over Tu-160 supersonic heavy bombers in 1999 as part of a larger debt payment for Russian gas. The journalists identified the planes by comparing their old serial numbers in archives and aviation registries.

RFE/RL was also able to identify some pilots flying these planes against Ukraine, like Oleg Skytskyi, a serviceman of the 22nd Aviation Division, which Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) says is "responsible for numerous victims and destruction in Ukraine," one of them likely being launching a missile that killed an RFE/RL journalist in Kyiv on April 28, 2022.

In the 1999 arms transfer, Kyiv transferred to Moscow eight Tu-160 and three Tu-95MS heavy bombers, as well as 575 Kh-55 cruise missiles, with Russia writing off $275 million in gas debt, 10% of the assets' real value.

The transferred Kh-55 missiles were also used against Ukraine, an earlier investigation by Radio Free showed.

The Tu-160 strategic bombers are among the biggest warplanes ever operated, but they are only sparsely used due to maintenance problems. They were the latest heavy strategic bombers designed in the Soviet Union, capable of carrying conventional and nuclear weaponry.

Their last use was on Nov. 17, when Russia launched one of the largest aerial strikes on Ukraine, killing seven civilians and damaging its energy grid.

Zelenskyy and NATO secretary general discuss air defence systems to counter Russia’s new Oreshnik ballistic missile

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have discussed Ukraine's specific needs for air defence systems in the wake of Russia's recent strike with a new ballistic missile.

Source: Zelenskyy on Telegram, as reported by European Pravda

Details: The Ukrainian leader recalled that a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council had taken place earlier because of Russia's use of a new ballistic missile.

Thus, on Wednesday, 27 November, Rutte and Zelenskyy discussed response measures, specifically the critical need to strengthen Ukraine's air defence capabilities.

"I've outlined the specific air defence systems that are needed and can work. Our partners have these air defence systems," Zelenskyy stressed.

The president also emphasised that the decisions of the NATO summit in Washington on air defence and other supplies for Ukrainian forces had not yet been fully implemented.

"We expect this [the delivery of all promised supplies], and it significantly affects the motivation and morale of our people," he said.

The Ukrainian president noted that the recent authorisation for Kyiv to launch long-range strikes on military targets in Russia had helped, though pressure on Russia should be maintained and increased at various levels.

"We've discussed contacts with our partners – with the US and others – and our coordinated work with them to implement what we've already agreed upon and to ensure the necessary additional military and political reinforcement. In particular, for the sake of inviting Ukraine to NATO," Zelenskyy concluded.

    Background:

    • The meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council was convened last week in connection with Russia's first use of an experimental ballistic missile, which the Russians dubbed Oreshnik.
    • Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said earlier that Kyiv hoped for "concrete, meaningful results" after the NATO-Ukraine Council.
    • Following the Oreshnik strike, Kyiv asked its partners to help strengthen its air defences to counter such ballistic missiles.
