Ex-Manchester City player becomes Georgian presidential candidate

Mikhail Kavelashvili has been nominated as a presidential candidate from the ruling Georgian Dream party. For the first time, the president of Georgia will be elected not by the population, but by the Electoral College on December 14.

The candidate for the post of President from the ruling party of Georgia will be former football player of the English club "Manchester City" Mikhail Kavelashvili. This was announced by the head of the "Georgian Dream" Bidzina Ivanishvili, reports UNN with reference to "Echo of the Caucasus".

"Honesty, justice, patriotism and integrity are the qualities that distinguish Mikhail Kavelashvili. He is the best embodiment of a Georgian man by nature, if you will, by his habit. He is a wonderful husband and father of four children. Taking into account all the above, the team made a unanimous decision on the nomination of Mikhail Kavelashvili for the post of President of Georgia. I am sure that Mikhail Kavelashvili will fully restore the dignity temporarily taken away from the presidential Institute. The inauguration of the new president will take place on December 29, and from now on the blatant practices of betrayal of the country and systematic violation of the Constitution by the president of Georgia, which caused the greatest damage to the presidential institution, will remain in the past," Ivanishvili said.

Kavelashvili is reportedly one of the leaders of the power of the People Party, which formally broke away from the ruling party. He was a member of Parliament of the IX and X convocations, and became a deputy following the results of the parliamentary elections on October 26. The "power of the people" is known for its anti-Western rhetoric and support for "traditional values".

He is a veteran of football, started his sports career in Lokomotiv Tbilisi, then moved to Dynamo, where he became a six-time champion of Georgia. In 1995, he moved to the Vladikavkaz club Spartak-Alania, and in 1996-to Manchester City (28 matches, 3 goals). He also played for various clubs in Switzerland.

    addition

For the first time, the president of Georgia will be elected not by the population, but by the Electoral College, in which the "Georgian Dream" will have the majority of seats.

The Russian presidential election will be held on December 14 at the parliament building, and the inauguration will be held on December 29 this year. The second round of elections (if necessary) will also be held on December 14.

Germany turns into Russia’s prime target for hybrid attacks – Bundeswehr General after DHL plane crash

Major General Christian Freuding, Head of the Planning Staff and the Special Task Force for Ukraine at Germany's Federal Ministry of Defence, believes that Germany is currently the main target of Russia’s hybrid attacks due to its leading role in supporting Ukraine.

Commenting in an interview with European Pravda on the crash near Vilnius of a cargo plane operating a flight for DHL, Freuding noted that while there is still too little information about the incident itself, it does not change the fact that hybrid warfare has become a key tool for the Kremlin. This is particularly relevant given previous "mail attacks" targeting the German logistics company.

"I will not comment on the DHL crash, as we haven’t any clue about the reason for it so far.

But we are fully aware that from a Russian perspective, in Russia‘s view, there is no peace between Western Europe or Germany and Russia. And international law no longer applies from a Russian perspective. Given that we are the strongest European supporter of Ukraine, we are a prime target for Russian hybrid offensive actions and we have to prepare for that," the German general told European Pravda.

Freuding also noted that Germany has seen signs of Russia’s intention to achieve capabilities by 2029 that could enable a renewed aggression, including against a NATO member state.

Previously: Major General Christian Freuding stated that Ukraine will receive two IRIS-T short- and medium-range air defence systems from Germany by the end of 2024.

David Coote ‘refutes’ betting ‘allegations’ amid ‘only banter’ claim as leaked ‘messages’ surface

    David Coote referees Liverpool

Suspended Premier League referee David Coote has “refuted false and defamatory allegations” after it was revealed he’s ‘at the centre of a betting probe’.

Earlier this month, the Premier League official was suspended by the PGMOL after his sweary rant on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp leaked online.

    He said: “Liverpool were s**t.

“C**t, absolute c**t. Aside from having a right pop at me when I was reffing against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then just had a right f***ing pop at me.

“I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody as f***ing arrogant. I do my best not to speak to him…my god, German c***t. F*** me.”

Coote‘s situation later worsened as it emerged that he organised a Travelodge ‘drugs party’ while officiating a Carabao Cup clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

READ: Don’t be surprised if referees think you and your manager are c***s

On Tuesday night, a report from The Sun revealed ‘Coote is at the centre of betting probe after discussing booking player before a game’.

The game in question was between Leeds United and West Brom in October 2019 as Ezgjan Alioski was booked after 17 minutes for a foul on Darnell Furlong.

Coote’s post-match ‘message to a pal’ read: “I hope you backed as discussed”.

It is also noted that ‘Coote accepts a discussion took place, but claims it was only banter and nothing improper took place.’

The Sun has broken down how the reported exchange with Coote unfolded.

‘In the new exchange unearthed by The Sun, Coote appears keen to impress a Leeds fan he met online. He bragged that he was set to officiate in the upcoming Leeds- West Brom Championship clash.

‘The pal says he jokingly told Coote to give a yellow card to Leeds left-back Ezgjan Alioski so he could put a bet on it at the bookies beforehand.

‘The day before the game, Coote tells him: “Yeah really good I’ve got Leeds tomorrow.” The friend replied: “Ooh big game. We still on for what we discussed (Alioski). Maybe I could join you if so.”

‘Coote replies: “Haha don’t know what you mean.” His friend then posts: “Haha well I’m off to back it in the morning so don’t let me down.” Coote answered: “Haha will see.”

‘The following evening, Alioski is booked in the 18th minute of the game for a sliding challenge on Darnell Furlong.

‘Last night football experts said the booking was fully justified given the nature of the tackle. Leeds eventually won the game 1-0 with a goal from Alioski.

‘The following day, Coote messaged his friend again to say: “What a day yesterday. I hope you backed as discussed.”

‘The pal tells him that he did not put money on it but he believes another friend “backed it though”. Coote then replies: “Haha he will have to share with you then.”’

In a statement, Coote has “strongly refuted” these “defamatory allegations”.

“I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations. Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life they have never affected my decision-making on the field.

“I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.”

Donald Trump is considering appointing a federal AI policy coordinator. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will influence the choice of a candidate for this position.

US President-elect Donald Trump is considering appointing an "AI czar" in the White House to coordinate federal policy and the government's use of new technologies, citing sources in Trump's transition team .

    Details

Elon Musk will not be the "czar of AI", but is expected to be closely involved in the process in the future, the sources said.

"They say that the role (position – ED.) is likely, but not defined," the newspaper writes.

Max and Vivek Ramaswamy, who lead Trump's new non-governmental institution, the Department of government efficiency (DOGE), will make a significant contribution to who gets this appointment.

Musk, who owns leading artificial intelligence company xAI, has publicly feuded with rival CEOs, including OpenAI's Sam Altman and Google's Sundar Pichai. Rivals fear that Musk may use his relationship with Trump to benefit his companies.

Trump, in part in response to the expanded coalition that contributed to his victory, plans to be very attentive to new technologies.

Trump's transition team has tested executives in the cryptosphere for the potential role of the world's first "cryptographer in the White House, Bloomberg reported last week.

The person responsible for AI and cryptocurrencies can be combined and transferred under the leadership of one "czar of emerging technologies".

"The AI czar is expected to be responsible for concentrating both public and private resources to keep America at the forefront of AI.

The idea has been discussed in Trump's world for months, as the transition team considered structural changes in the White House to prioritize staffing in line with Trump's priorities.

The model, as indicated, is similar to the National Energy Council, which, according to Trump, will be headed by North Dakota Governor Doug Bergum, who was appointed to the post of Secretary of the interior. Trump said in a statement that the council "will consist of all departments and agencies involved in the licensing, production, generation, distribution, regulation, and transportation of all forms of American energy.

Tim Robbins believes that Hollywood has a disappointing future ahead of it.

If you go to Netflix now, you can see what movies are coming out, and you tell me, what is the future of cinema? We're in big trouble.

    – says the actor.

Tim Robbins added that high-quality films will still be successful and have a lasting impact, but it will be much rarer than it was before.

It's been 30 years since Shawshank Redemption

    – he said.

When it came out, it received good reviews, it was nominated for an Academy Award, but no one saw it. The situation was changed by VHS and Ted Turner, who showed it on his TV channel Turner Classic Movies. This is my favorite movie. It remains at the top of IMDb as the most beloved movie of all time. So I know that high-quality movies, high-quality TV shows will continue. Whether it's a hit or not doesn't matter compared to what people will think about it in 10, 15, 20 years
