Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to ensure the sustainability of Ukraine’s energy system. The memorandum will enable up to $825M of American assistance to improve the sustainability of Ukraine’s energy system, restore its critical infrastructure, introduce distributed generation, reform the energy sector, and facilitate the post-war transition to a low-carbon, competitive, and European-integrated economy. In addition, Denmark announced the provision of €6M to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. The funding will be directed to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, established by the Energy Community, an international organization which works to create an integrated pan-European energy market. This became known after a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration Olga Stefanishyna and a Danish delegation, which arrived in Kyiv for the first time. The parties also discussed issues related to the EU enlargement process, Ukraine’s accession to the EU, and the transformations necessary along this path.
