    Russia captures 2 villages near Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border, monitoring group says

    Russian forces have occupied the villages of Zelenyi Kut and Novoukrainka in Donetsk Oblast, situated close to the executive border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, the battlefield monitoring platform DeepState reported on July 5.

    Russian forces are trying to push additional west, in response to DeepState.

    Donetsk Oblast has been a central battlefield because the begin of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 in Ukraine. Whereas Dnipropetrovsk Oblast lies additional west and has not seen important Russian incursions, it’s incessantly focused with missile, drone, and aerial bomb strikes.

    Russia's Protection Ministry claimed Novoukrainka was captured as early as June 29, although that assertion was not independently confirmed on the time.

    On July 2, Ukraine dismissed Russian claims of advancing into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, calling them disinformation. It stated {that a} small Russian reconnaissance unit briefly entered the village of Dachne, took photographs with a Russian flag, and was then "eradicated."

    Ukrainian army spokesperson Viktor Trehubov stated in mid-June that Russia was escalating assaults within the Novopavlivka sector — within the western a part of Donetsk Oblast — and attempting to breach into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

    DeepState analysts recommend Moscow views an incursion into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast as symbolically important and a propaganda alternative, whereas for Ukraine, holding the executive line is a strategic precedence.
