EU to allocate €1bn from earnings of Russian property for arms orders from Ukrainian defence trade

Kaja Kallas, EU Excessive Consultant for International Affairs and Safety Coverage, and ministers from EU member states have signed a declaration in Lviv expressing their intention to switch €1 billion in earnings from frozen Russian property to Ukraine.

Particulars: On 9 Could in Lviv, a declaration was signed to switch €1 billion in earnings from frozen Russian property to Ukraine.

The declaration was signed by Kaja Kallas, Danish Minister for Enterprise Morten Bødskov, French International Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Italian Deputy International Minister Edmondo Cirielli.

"With these funds, the signatories will buy weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

He later clarified that, in complete, the EU will allocate €1.9 billion from the earnings of Russian property for the acquisition of weapons for Ukraine.

Shmyhal stated that over €600 million might be directed in the direction of artillery and ammunition, and greater than €200 million will go in the direction of strengthening Ukrainian air defence.

"We sincerely thank the European Union for this forward-looking determination, management and help. Particular due to Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Italy, which can perform the procurement of Ukrainian weapons value €1 billion," Shmyhal wrote.
