Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas has expressed his perception that the disconnection of the three Baltic states from the Russiaʼs power system strengthens power safety and ensures stability.

This morning, Lithuania, along with Latvia and Estonia, took a serious step in the direction of power independence by disconnecting from the Russia-controlled electrical energy grid. This transfer strengthens our power safety, deepens integration with Europe and ensures a secure, dependable energy provide."
Background:
- On 8 February, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania formally disconnected from the Russian power system.
- Again in July 2024, power ministers from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania confirmed their plans to synchronise with the continental European power system ENTSO-E and disconnect from Russia by February 2025.
- Till now, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, together with Russia and Belarus, have operated inside a shared electrical energy provide system managed centrally from Moscow. Nevertheless, the Baltic States totally stopped importing electrical energy from Russia in Might 2022.
