US President Donald Trump has claimed that excluding Russia from the Group of Eight in 2014 was a "huge mistake" and that had it not occurred, there would have been no battle in Ukraine.

"Barack Obama and an individual named Trudeau didn’t need to have Russia in. I’d say that was a mistake as a result of I feel you wouldn't have a battle proper now if you happen to had Russia in," he added.
Russia was expelled from the G8 on 18 March 2014, a month after it invaded Ukraine and two days after it illegally annexed Crimea in violation of worldwide legislation.
The US president went on to say that Russia's exclusion from the G8 was a "huge mistake" and that he had been "very loud" about it, though he was not in politics on the time.
"You spend a lot time speaking about Russia, and he [Putin – ed.] is now not on the desk. So it makes life extra difficult. However you wouldn't have had the battle," Trump mentioned.
In response to a different query about Russia, Trump acknowledged that "you’ve gotten your enemy on the desk, and he [Putin] wasn’t even actually an enemy at the moment," referring to the time Russia was faraway from the G8.
Trump admitted, nonetheless, that Russia is unlikely to be invited again now as a result of "an excessive amount of water's gone over the dam", however added that inviting China is "not a foul thought".
