  • Turkish president and NATO secretary general to discuss war in Ukraine – Reuters

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will receive NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara on Monday and will discuss the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, among other topics.

Source: Reuters, citing an unnamed Turkish official, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Türkiye, which has condemned Russia's invasion, affirms its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and provides military assistance to Kyiv.

However, the country also opposes Western sanctions against Russia, with which it has crucial defence, energy and tourism ties.

The Reuters source noted that during Monday's talks, Erdoğan and Rutte will also discuss removing obstacles to defence procurement between NATO allies and the military alliance's joint fight against terrorism.

    Background:

    • Media reports recently suggested that Erdogan's "peace plan" for Ukraine envisages a freeze on hostilities at the parties' current positions and postponing the discussion of Kyiv's accession to NATO for at least 10 years as a concession to Putin.
    • In addition, the Turkish president previously made it clear that he did not support the US decision to allow Ukraine to use US-supplied ATACMS missiles in Russia.

  • Winning Premier League would be Guardiola’s ‘greatest’ title amid Man City ‘decline’ – Neville

Winning Premier League would be Guardiola’s ‘greatest’ title amid Man City ‘decline’ – Neville

Man City manager Pep Guardiola looks dejected during a match

Gary Neville believes Manchester City are “on the decline” and that winning the Premier League this season would be Pep Guardiola’s “greatest” title win.

The champions were smashed 4-0 by Tottenham at the Etihad on Saturday to make it five defeats in a row in all competitions.

James Maddison raced Spurs into an early 2-0 lead before second-half goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson sent the Londoners home very happy.

City are now five points behind leaders Liverpool – who have a game in hand against Southampton – in the Premier League table having lost their last three top flight matches against Bournemouth, Brighton and now Spurs.

People anticipated a difficult period for the Citizens following Rodri’s season-ending ACL injury but nobody could have seen such a disastrous spell coming.

The Ballon d’Or winner’s influence has never been so striking and with Mateo Kovacic ruled out for a month, Spurs absolutely killed Guardiola’s side.

Man City troubles deeper than Rodri absence, they are ‘declining’ – Neville

Former Manchester United defender Neville insists “this is more than just Rodri, far more” and believes City are “on the decline”.

Several City players are on the wrong side of 30 and Neville, speaking from priceless experience, says it is understandable that “the physical and mental demands” of winning – and being expected to win – year after year can take its toll.

“When you’re on the decline – and I hate to use the word decline, but it does feel like it – it’s a group of players with a number of things [going wrong],” he told Sky Sports.

“The idea of growing slightly old together, the idea of playing the volume of games together, the physical and mental demands of that, and the third thing is how many times you can keep going.

“I played for a manager and a club who kept going, but there were times when you just fall over. You’ve won the league three times on the bounce, twice, you’ve done doubles, you’ve won trebles, and you just can’t go any further.

“Your shoulders just drop a bit, and it looks like that’s the kind of thing that’s happened here.

“It’s a group of players who have run a million miles. They’ve been sensational. But they’ve become a little bit punch-drunk. Leggy, lacking in energy, they’ve lost players and a couple of vital players out through injury.

“It’s a big game next week, Liverpool vs City, and there’s only a few points in it, there’s a long way to go, but it feels like today, if Man City were to win the title this season, I think it would be Pep’s greatest Premier League.”

City’s losing streak includes a Champions League defeat at Sporting and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Spurs.

They are back in action at home to Dutch side Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday before a significant trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Max Verstappen wins fourth consecutive Formula 1 world title

Verstappen won his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world title ahead of schedule. The Dutchman equaled the number of championships with the legendary Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel.

Dutch driver Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 championship ahead of schedule, having already won the 4th title in his career. This was reported by Suspilne Sport, UNN.

    Details

“Verstappen defended his Formula 1 title at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. To win the championship, the 27-year-old Dutchman had to get ahead of his main rival, Lando Norris of McLaren, or not lose more than three points to him in Las Vegas – otherwise, the championship was postponed at least until the next round in Qatar,” the publication writes.

After 50 laps of the race, Verstappen was ahead of Norris: he finished in fifth place, while the Briton came right behind him.

In the overall Formula 1 standings, Verstappen is 64 points ahead of Norris with two races to go. The Briton will no longer be able to overtake the Dutchman.

Verstappen won his fourth consecutive and fourth overall Formula 1 title after winning in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and equaled Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel in the number of championships. There are three drivers ahead of the Dutchman: Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton (seven titles each) and Juan Manuel Fangio (five).

Russia fires North Korean missiles with Western components at Ukraine - CNN

Russia has fired about 60 North Korean KN-23 missiles at Ukraine since the beginning of the year. The missiles contained components from nine Western manufacturers, including the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has fired about 60 North Korean KN-23 missiles with Western components, some of which were manufactured in 2023, at Ukraine. The only Korean component in these missiles is metal, which rusts quickly. This was written by CNNand reported by UNN.

    Details

According to the publication, this year Russia has launched about 60 North Korean KN-23 missiles at Ukraine, which is almost one in three of the 194 ballistic missiles launched so far in 2024.

“We see that since the spring, Russia has been using ballistic missiles and attack drones much more to strike Ukraine. And there is less use of cruise missiles,” Yuriy Ihnat, acting chief of communications of the Ukrainian Air Force, told CNN.

The publication notes that, according to a recent report by the Ukrainian Independent Anti-Corruption Commission, key components used in North Korean missiles are produced by nine Western manufacturers, including companies based in the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Some parts of the missiles were manufactured as recently as 2023, indicating that they could be delivered to North Korea quickly.

“Everything that works to control the rocket, to make it fly, is all foreign components. All the electronics are foreign. There is nothing Korean about it. The only thing that is Korean is the metal, which quickly rusts and corrodes,” Andriy Kulchytskyi, head of the military research laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, said in a commentary to the publication.

The Ukrainian intelligence service told the newspaper that, according to investigations, “the vast majority of components are Western.

The publication, citing experts, notes that there is no reliable information on how the components get to North Korea, but all signs point to China as a likely channel.

“We have successfully traced some of these components, and the last known custodians are Chinese companies,” said CAR Deputy Director of Operations Damien Splitters.

    Recall

Experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise) found that Russia used, among other things, North Korean ballistic missiles of the KN-23/24 type during the combined attack on Ukraine on November 13.

According to the experts of KFI, the KN-23 combines both modern technologies and solutions from the last century. A significant percentage of the microelectronics is manufactured in China, Taiwan, the United States, and other countries. Probably, launches are carried out from North Korean-made launchers, as it would be much more difficult to adapt Russian systems.

Ukraine shot down 50 of the 73 drones launched by Russia overnight on Nov. 24, the Air Force reported.

Russia reportedly targeted Ukraine with Shahed drones and an unspecified type of drone launched from the Russian oblasts of Oryol and Bryansk.

The drones were downed over Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Zhytomyr oblasts, according to the Air Force. There have been no reports of casualties or damage.

As of 9 a.m. local time, four Russian drones remained in Ukrainian airspace, with combat operations ongoing.

Kyiv authorities reported in the morning that air defense forces shot down more than a dozen drones targeting the capital.

"Preliminary reports indicate no damage in the capital, and no information about casualties has been received," the Kyiv City Military Administration wrote on Telegram.

Russia has increased large-scale drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, depleting Ukraine's air defense systems and targeting critical infrastructure.

On Nov. 17, Russian forces launched one of the heaviest aerial strikes of the full-scale war, primarily targeting the energy grid. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 102 of the 120 missiles and 42 of the 90 drones launched overnight.

Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR), reported on Nov. 18 that Russian forces are using cheap decoy drones with foreign components to overload Ukraine's air defense systems.

According to HUR, Russian manufacturers produce the Gerbera drone — a cheaper and less deadly equivalent of Iran's Shahed — at a plant in Yelabuga, in the Republic of Tatarstan, central Russia. These drones are reportedly made with components from the United States, China, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Nearly 22,000 civilians have been evacuated from Kharkiv Oblast in 6 months, governor says

Nearly 22,000 residents have been evacuated from Kharkiv Oblast since May, with efforts ongoing to evacuate more residents from settlements near the front line, Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Nov. 23.

"We are continuing evacuation efforts, bringing both children and adults to safety," Syniehubov said on air.

Kharkiv Oblast has endured constant Russian attacks for over two and a half years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Syniehubov noted that the most targeted areas include the Vovchansk direction in the Chuhuiv district, the Lyptsi area, and the Kupiansk direction. The city of Kupiansk was briefly captured by Russian forces in 2022 before being reclaimed by Ukrainian troops. Its strategic value lies in its position as a key logistics and transportation hub, with several major highways and five railway lines converging within the city.

The governor added that evacuees are being provided with humanitarian aid, psychological support, and financial assistance in relatively safe areas, including the city of Kharkiv, located less than 30 kilometers from the Russian border.
