
Ukraine has signed a memorandum with German protection producer Diehl Protection to triple the availability of IRIS-T air protection programs and missiles, Protection Minister Rustem Umerov introduced on March 9.
The deal comes as Ukraine faces intensified Russian aerial assaults, together with Russia’s strike on Feb. 23, which marked the only largest drone assault because the begin of the full-scale invasion.
"The signed settlement paves the best way for big industrial initiatives that can strengthen the capabilities of Ukraine's air protection," Umerov wrote on Fb.
The IRIS-T is a contemporary surface-to-air missile system able to countering plane, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles.
Germany has been a key provider of the system, with outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz asserting an order for 17 further IRIS-T programs for Ukraine final September.
In late December, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had obtained Germany’s sixth IRIS-T battery.
