UNESCO has condemned Russia's overnight strikes on Odesa's historic center overnight on Nov. 15, which damaged numerous architectural monuments, according to a statement on its official website.

As a result of the Russian attack overnight on Nov. 15, a 35-year-old was killed. The strike also injured 10 people, with eight of them hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.

"UNESCO condemns these strikes, which contravene international law, and expresses its support for the victims, the population, and the local authorities," reads the statement published on Nov. 18.

The historical center of the southern city of Odesa was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in January 2023.

"Once again, UNESCO is calling for an end to all attacks on cultural property protected under widely ratified international standard-setting instruments."

A UNESCO mission led by Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine, arrived on Nov. 16 to inspect the recently damaged cultural heritage sites. The organization has not yet provided the results of the assessments.

Since the beginning of the all-out war, Russia has destroyed over 1,000 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine, including those under the protection of UNESCO, according to the Culture Ministry.

In July 2023, the Russian missile strike damaged more than 20 architectural monuments in the historical center of Odesa and heavily damaged the Transfiguration Cathedral.

On Oct. 28, the Russian bomb hit an iconic 13-story building situated in the very heart of Kharkiv, known as Derzhprom, or the State Industry House. Derzhprom was added to UNESCO's preliminary list in 2017 and was placed under provisional enhanced UNESCO protection after Russia's full-scale invasion.

As of Oct. 21, UNESCO confirmed the damage to 457 sites, including 143 religious sites, 231 buildings of historical or artistic interest, 32 museums, 33 monuments, 17 libraries, and one archive.

Trump may declare a state of emergency to mass deport illegals in the U.S

US President-elect Donald Trump has endorsed the idea of a national emergency plan to deport illegal migrants. He intends to use military resources and “all necessary powers” to implement this program.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has backed calls for a national emergency plan as part of his mass deportation policy and promised to use “all necessary powers,” reports UNN citing Newsweek.

In his Truth Social platform, the president-elect responded to reports that he is considering the move to ensure that military resources are used to carry out deportations of foreign criminals who entered the country illegally.

Trump made immigration a major component of his successful bid to occupy the White House, which allowed him to win a decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

Caroline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump-Vance transition, told Newsweek, “President Trump will enlist all necessary federal and state powers to conduct the largest deportation operation of illegal criminals, drug traffickers and human traffickers in American history, while lowering costs for families.

“The American people re-elected President Trump by a wide margin, giving him a mandate to fulfill the promises he made on the campaign trail, such as deporting migrant criminals and restoring our economic greatness. He will fulfill them.

Conservative commentator Tom Fitton wrote in a post, “The incoming administration is reportedly prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military resources to reverse Biden's intrusion through a mass deportation program.

Responding to Fitton's remarks, Trump wrote, “TRUTH.

Fitton is a prominent conservative activist and president of Judicial Watch, a community group dedicated to investigating government corruption.

Trump has previously warned that he would enlist the National Guard as well as state agencies to implement his proposed deportation policy. However, there are questions about legal restrictions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement.

Borrell confirms US authorization for Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with missiles up to 300 km in range

Editor's note: This story is being updated.

The U.S. has authorized Ukraine to strike military targets deep inside Russian territory, the European Union's top diplomat Josep Borrell confirmed on Nov. 18 following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

"The Biden administration has authorized the use of its weapons up to 300 kilometers inside Russian territory," he said. "The American administration said no for a long time, and they ended up saying yes."

Several media outlets reported on Nov. 17 that U.S. President Joe Biden permitted Ukraine to use its ATACMS missiles to strike against targets on Russian soil. According to some reports, this so far concerns only Russian and North Korean forces amassing in Russia's Kursk Oblast.

Kyiv and Washington did not provide a clear statement on whether the authorization to strike deep into Russia with US-made missiles was granted. Borrell was the first official to confirm the move.
Answering the question of why Joe Biden's administration decided to authorize long-range strikes against Russia now, Borrell said he did not know why the White House made this decision after the presidential election and not before.

Borrell also confirmed that this permit was indeed granted and is spread over a distance of 300 kilometers (187 miles).

"It's not that much by way of a distance. It's not a very long distance. It doesn't go deep into the country, but this is the decision by the administration," the diplomat said.

"I think it's reasonable to provide arms, not just to stop the arrows, but also to fight the bowmen," Borrell added.

The diplomat also highlighted that in the EU, each country makes its own decisions on the use of its weapons by Ukraine.
Biden has been long adamant about not allowing Western-supplied weapons to be used on Russian soil, fearing an escalation. He first eased the restrictions in May to allow Ukraine to use certain weaponry like HIMARS to strike at Russian troops just across the border in the wake of the Kharkiv offensive.

Unnamed U.S. officials, as well as a source familiar with the decision, who spoke to Reuters following the decision, said that Kyiv plans to conduct its first long-range strikes in the coming days.

As the decision came in the last months of Biden's term in office, it remains unclear whether Trump will uphold the policy after he returns to the White House.

Russian Foreign Ministry claims ATACMS strikes on Russia would be taken as direct US involvement in war

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Ukraine's use of ATACMS long-range missiles to strike Russian territory would be considered direct US involvement in the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Source: European Pravda, citing Mariia Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry

Details: Zakharova said that Kyiv’s use of long-range missiles to attack Russian territory would be taken as "direct participation by the US and its satellites in hostilities against Russia, as well as a radical change in the nature and essence of the conflict".

Quote: "Russia’s response will be adequate and tangible in such a case."

Notably, Ukrainian forces have previously used ATACMS missiles on territories temporarily occupied by Russia, which Moscow considers its own and has even incorporated into its constitution.

Zakharova also stressed that it remains unclear whether reports claiming that US President Joe Biden has authorised Kyiv to use ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russian territory are coming from official sources.

    Background:

    • Media reported that US President Joe Biden has for the first time authorised Ukrainian forces to use long-range ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory.
    • Axios noted that this decision concerns Kursk Oblast and is intended as a response to the involvement of North Korean military personnel in the war.
    • Meanwhile, the White House refused to directly confirm the permission for Ukraine to use long-range missiles on military targets in Russia but acknowledged developing a response to North Korea’s involvement in the conflict.

  • Arsenal ‘want to repeat Odegaard trick’ as Real Madrid jewel ‘could join’ Arteta’s side

Arsenal ‘want to repeat Odegaard trick’ as Real Madrid jewel ‘could join’ Arteta’s side

Arsenal transfer target Arda Guler and Martin Odegaard

Arsenal are keen on attempting to ‘repeat’ the operation which saw Martin Odegaard join the Gunners on loan from Real Madrid in 2021, according to reports.

The north London club have had a shaky start to the new Premier League season with Arsenal winning just five of their first 11 matches.

Arteta’s fourth-placed side are now nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool with the Reds making a fast start to the new season, while defending champions Man City are four points ahead in second.

Arsenal have not won in their last four Premier League matches as they struggle to stay in the title race and now there are rumours about who Mikel Arteta could bring in to improve his side.

The Gunners have only been able to call upon captain Odegaard for four Premier League matches this season and they are looking for some cover for the Norwegian.

And reports in Spain claim that Real Madrid attacking midfielder Arda Guler ‘could join’ Arsenal in January as the Turkey international continues to get frustrated about his game time.

The Premier League side ‘want to repeat what they did with’ Odegaard in 2021 with Guler after Arsenal brought the Norway international in initially on loan before making the deal permanent six months later for around €40m.

Guler, who starred at Euro 2024 for Turkey, is ‘seeing his talents remain on the back burner due to the lack of opportunities under the management of Carlo Ancelotti’.

Arsenal, who ‘had great success with Martin Odegaard after a similar situation, see in Guler an opportunity to repeat the formula’ but Real Madrid ‘could resist letting one of their jewels leave’.

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton reckons Arsenal will probably end up finishing third this season but he’s already ruled them out of the title race.

Hutton told BestBettingSites.co.uk: “I did the Liverpool game against Aston Villa, and they were very good. I just feel the way the league is at this moment in time, if you start losing too many points, you’re out of it.

“Liverpool are five points in front and then you’ve got Arsenal nine behind that. That’s a lot of points to reduce. That’s a lot in this day and age when you think of previous seasons, teams hardly lost a game. To pull that back is going to be very difficult for Arsenal.

“You can never write off City. That being said, at this moment in time, it would be between Liverpool and City. But things can quite easily change in football. I think Chelsea have done really well. I think it’s probably too soon for them to really be talking about competing for the title over the full length of season, but they’re coming up quickly and they’ve done really well so far.

“I said Arsenal at the start of the season with City, but it’s strange how it’s quickly changed. So, I’m looking at Liverpool and Man City now as the main two contenders for the title.”

On the top four, Hutton added: “At the start of the season, I wouldn’t have said Chelsea would have been up there, but I’m starting to see signs from them that they can go on a run and they can compete.

“We know they’re so strong in terms of their squad, so I think they could maintain it. Liverpool Man City will be up there, I think Arsenal will be up there and then it’s one after that for me. Could it be Chelsea?

“Tottenham seem a little bit back now, but then you’ve got Villa that’s right up there as well, so it is very tight. I think it’ll kind of flip-flop between now and the end of the season, but the top three will be Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal, with a lot of clubs fighting for that last Champions League spot throughout the season.”
