Umerov tells EU delegation about Ukraine's drone production capabilities

Defense Minister Umerov discussed with Borrell the possibility of producing Ukrainian drones worth $11 billion. Ukraine can invest $3 billion on its own, but needs the support of partners to fully realize its potential.

During a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Kyiv, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov spoke about the possibilities of Ukrainian drone production. He announced this in Telegram, UNN reports.

I told the EU delegation about the potential of Ukrainian drone production, which is currently estimated at $11 billion. Of this, we can invest about $3 billion on our own, but to maximize our potential, we need financial support from our partners,

    – Umerov wrote.

He expressed hope that a significant portion of the next tranche of frozen Russian assets will be used to strengthen the Ukrainian defense industry. According to the minister, "one of the most effective steps to help our defenders is to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry.

I highly appreciate Mr. Borrell's personal contribution to the diplomatic, economic and military support of Ukraine. In appreciation of these efforts, which have strengthened our defense capabilities, I presented him with the Cross of Honor,

David Coote ‘accepts’ he’s the David Coote who called Klopp a ‘German c**t’ as memory returns

    David Coote

Premier League referee David Coote, who has been suspended by PGMOL after a video appeared to show him calling former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp a “German c**t”, now admits he did indeed call Jurgen Klopp a “German c**t”.

Coote was in charge as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday, which maintained their brilliant start to the new season, but the Premier League referee controversially denied the Reds a foul as Leon Bailey brought Mohamed Salah to the ground before Darwin Nunez scored the opener, while Villa also complained they should have had two spot-kicks.

The Premier League referee had a number of run-ins with Klopp before he left Liverpool in the summer with Coote on VAR the day Jordan Pickford’s tackle saw Virgil van Dijk pick up an ACL injury in the Merseyside derby in October 2020.

And there is video footage, thought to have been filmed during the pandemic, going around on social media in which a friend asks Coote about a particular Liverpool performance, to which the Premier League referee replied (via the Empire of the Kop): “Liverpool were s**t.”

“C**t, absolute c**t. Aside from having a right pop at me when I was reffing against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then just had a right f***ing pop at me. I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody as f***ing arrogant. I do my best not to speak to him…my god, German c***t. F*** me.”

The friend then adds: “Long story short, Jurgen Klopp’s a c***t, Liverpool are all f***ing bellends and we hate Scousers.”

BBC Sport football reporter Simon Stone revealed that the PGMOL are now investigating the video doing the rounds on social media.

Stone wrote on X: “PGMOL are aware of a video circulating on social media and are investigating.”

The Times reporter Paul Joyce later revealed that Coote had now been suspended, he said on X: ‘David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.’

In a further development, as reported by Mirror’s Darren Lewis, Coote initially said it wasn’t him.

Lewis wrote on X: ‘Premier League referee David Coote vehemently denies inappropriate conduct and has been insistent to referee chiefs PGMOL that viral video in which he appears is not genuine. PGMOL have tech experts examining it.’

But now, in a moment of clarity, presumably concerned by the tech skills of said ‘tech experts’, again according to Lewis, Coote has confirmed that he is the man in the video.

Lewis wrote on X: ‘UPDATE: Top Premier League referee David Coote, is understood to have accepted the viral video in which in which he appears is genuine. However, it is believed he does not recall the content of the discussion, recorded several years ago.’

After the defeat, he won several fights, but suffered a stroke after a fight with German Eduard Gutknecht. Uzelkov ended his career in 2014, having fought 34 fights, of which he won 30 (19 by knockout).

After his boxing career ended, Uzelkov was actively involved in various projects: he tried himself as an actor, TV presenter, and politician. In 2008, he starred in a melodrama, and in 2009, he took part in the show "Dancing for You."

In 2014-2015, he was a member of the jury on the Ukraine's Got Talent program, and later, together with his wife Maryna, he starred in the project "Balanced and Happy." In 2020, he ran for mayor of Vinnytsia from the OPFL, but received only 4% of the vote. Uzelkov was married to Maryna Borzhemska for 22 years, with whom he raised two children, but the couple divorced in 2021.

Britain's oldest satellite moved - by whom, no one knows

The 1969 British military satellite Skynet-1A suddenly changed its orbit by thousands of kilometers. Scientists cannot explain the reason for the satellite's movement, which now poses a threat to other spacecraft.

Scientists are confused by Skynet-1A's new position, and the likelihood that the satellite moved due to accidental drift is unproven.

UNN writes with reference to the BBC.

A 1960s British military satellite unexpectedly deviated thousands of kilometers from its intended course, leaving scientists scratching their heads over the cause of the anomaly.

According to the BBC, there is no information on who moved the satellite, when, or why. The inactive satellite now poses a threat to other satellites.

    HelpHelp

Skynet-1A was built by the American company Philco Ford and launched by the US Air Force's Delta rocket.

In 1969, Sputnik was launched into orbit over the east coast of Africa to transmit encrypted messages. This was important for the British military.

A few years later, Skynet-1A failed. Scientists expected gravity to pull it further east, forcing it to crash into the Indian Ocean. But to everyone's surprise, Skynet-1A is not only still hovering above the planet, at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers.

    Image

The object is currently hovering over North and South America. So far, this “surprise” has left scientists and experts bewildered – they are trying their best to understand how and why the satellite changed its trajectory.

Explains Dr. Stuart Eaves, space consultant:

It is currently in what is known as a “gravity field” at 105 degrees west longitude, where it moves back and forth like a ball at the bottom of a bowl. Unfortunately, this regularly brings it into close proximity to other satellites

The UK Ministry of Defense continues to monitor Skynet-1A. It informs other satellite operators about possible collisions.

Trump has chosen a new ambassador to the UN: what is known about candidate Alice Stefanik

Donald Trump has nominated Republican Alice Stefanik as a candidate for the post of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik is known for her criticism of the UN and controversial stance on Ukraine – she supported sanctions against rf, but voted against new funding.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has named Republican Alice Stefanik as his nominee for ambassador to the United Nations, reports UNN citing CNN.

“I am honored to nominate Alice Stefanik to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in my office. Alice is an incredibly strong, tough and smart fighter for 'America First,'” Trump said in a statement, confirming a CNN report Sunday that Stefanik had been offered the role.

The New York congresswoman, the fourth-ranking Republican in the House, has been a staunch ally of the president-elect and a major fundraiser for the Republican Party.

    Add

CNN notes that Stefanik's selection signals a more aggressive U.S. stance toward the UN. Stefanik has often criticized the international organization, especially for its criticism of Israel, and said last month that the Biden administration should consider a “complete reevaluation” of U.S. funding for the UN if the Palestinian Authority continues to push for the withdrawal of Israel's UN membership.

According to Radio Liberty, she co-sponsored a bill that would impose sanctions on russia's financial and energy sectors and increase U.S. military aid in Ukraine ahead of rf's invasion.

But at the same time, the congresswoman voted against providing Ukraine with $61 billion in new funding this year. She justified this decision by saying that “while she supports the idea of military aid to Ukraine, she cannot advocate for additional funds for non-lethal assistance in the context of the crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Kyiv Independent is 3 years old. Here’s a list of our consequential stories throughout the years

On Nov. 11, 2021, a group of young journalists in Ukraine fired for defending their editorial independence decided to launch a new publication that would stand by those principles.

This new publication, without a name at its start, would later become known as the Kyiv Independent.

Three years in, the Kyiv Independent’s coverage of Ukraine has won a dozen domestic and international awards. It has proven crucial for the world’s understanding of Ukraine and the wider region since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, launched just three months after the Kyiv Independent was created.

Below is a list of the Kyiv Independent’s coverage that has had an impact on how the world sees Ukraine and its fight for freedom.

    War reporting

Our reporting on Russia’s full-scale war began at 4 a.m. on Feb. 24, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the largest ground invasion in Europe since World War II.

We were among the first publications to call the invasion a “war,” despite the Kremlin’s attempts to frame it otherwise by euphemistically referring to it as a “special military operation” — terminology many Western outlets parroted at the outset of the war.

    PUTIN DECLARES WAR ON UKRAINE

We have covered all major stages of the war. We were there to cover the Battle of Kyiv from February–April 2022 when Russian forces withdrew from the region, leaving behind a vast trail of brutal war crimes.

We covered Ukraine’s liberation of Kherson on Nov. 11, 2022, and how Russia has continued to launch near-daily attacks on the city since being pushed out. We have followed the fierce battles of Avdiivka, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, and Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast and reported from the front-line cities in the country’s south, east, and north, including from Ukraine-controlled parts of Kursk Oblast in Russia.

The Kyiv Independent has also covered the immense problems that come with fighting a defensive war, from the problems facing Ukrainian medical units to the lack of armor for women serving in the Armed Forces, and the way Ukrainian soldiers are dealing with Russia’s chemical warfare. We have also written about the defense tech industry in Ukraine which has exploded in the wake of the war, and the challenges that it too, faces.

    Investigations

Over the three years of the news outlet’s existence, the Kyiv Independent has produced a number of investigations of note. Among them is a three-part award-winning series about the Ukrainian International Legion that uncovered the problems faced by foreigners who have come to Ukraine as volunteers to join the fight against Russia.

For its investigation into the International Legion, the Kyiv Independent won the European Press Prize, the continent’s highest journalism prize.

The Kyiv Independent was also one of the first outlets to look into the Deputy Head of Russia’s FSB Sergey Korolev, who’s been so secretive that almost no photos of him exist online.

Investigation: Shattering the secrecy of Putin’s top spy chief

One of the major problems facing Ukrainian soldiers is a medical system that’s fundamentally broken. The Kyiv Independent covered the problems facing veterans as they seek treatment in an investigation published in 2024.

    War crimes

Russia has committed over 130,000 war crimes since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. In 2023, the Kyiv Independent launched its War Crimes Investigations Unit to document and uncover the atrocities committed by the invading power.

Since its inception, the team has produced six documentaries on Russia’s abduction and murder of children, torture and murder of prisoners of war, sexual violence, and the crimes that continue to happen in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey believes that if reports of a phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump are accurate, this could signal a positive development for Ukraine.

Source: Sky News, citing John Healey, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Healey said that the Trump-Putin conversation would be a "very good first step and an early sign" that the incoming US administration may continue its support for Ukraine.

He expressed hope that the newly elected American president will recognise that such support aligns with America's interests.

Quote: "If countries like Russia are able to redraw international boundaries by force, that sends a signal that undermines the security of all nations."

A risky bet that has paid off so triumphantly: Musk is having an increasing impact on Trump's return to the White House

Elon Musk has become the most influential figure in the entourage of US President-elect Donald Trump. Since Trump's victory, Musk's fortune has increased by $21 billion, and his influence on future policy continues to grow.

Despite the billionaire's loud support for the winning candidate, it remains to be seen whether Trump will be willing to listen to the SpaceX and Tesla founder in everything, including some key areas of his policy.

Written by UNN with reference to CNN and Forbes.

    Details

Elon Musk's bet on the Republican leader who eventually won the US presidential election is likely to pay off, making him the most influential leader in the new administration and even richer. Meanwhile, it is very likely that the influence of the founder of Platform X on Donald Trump is increasing.

Over the past 48 hours, Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club has been packed with two types of people: those looking for jobs in the future administration of the president-elect and those trying to influence him.

The wealth of the world's 10 richest people has increased dramatically since Trump's victory. Elon Musk has become especially richNovember 7 2024, 05:36 PM • 21746 views

According to many sources, the person who has dominated the situation and had a lot of influence is Elon Musk. The billionaire has been seen in the Palm Beach, Florida resort almost every day since Trump won the election last week

    – CNN writes.

    Image

Meanwhile, according to media reports, the world's richest man has already increased his net worth by $21 billion to $285.6 billion. Tesla shares are up 15% on the news of Trump's victory.

    Trump reciprocates:

He is a special guy. “He is a super genius. We have to protect our geniuses. We don't have many

    – Trump said of Musk in his victory speech.

    HelpHelp

Musk, who has never been a major campaign donor before, has donated about $120 million to Trump and Republican candidates through his American Coalition Election Fund. Musk also made a controversial cash giveaway to voters in key states, and did so despite the fact that numerous consumer surveys have shown that such actions are not well received by Tesla's core customer base.

The billionaire may not be chasing the post

Musk is not currently formally expected to take a position in the Trump administration, and in fact, he doesn't need to, one source told CNN, noting that the owner of X has the same influence from the outside.

Elon Musk is not just a billionaire, and he is not like most billionaires who try to get into politics. I believe that in general, Musk's motives are not based on profit. I mean, he takes on companies because he believes they can change the future of humanity

    – said Michael Morris, professor of leadership at Columbia Business School.

    Image

Trump wants to shorten the Senate confirmation processNovember 11 2024, 11:29 AM • 10803 views

However, the possible prospect of Musk's position in the administration has some investors excited.

Ross Gerber, president of the Los Angeles-based investment company Gerber Kawasaki, expects Musk to insist on less regulation:

That's just good. Do you know how much time and money corporations spend just responding to stupid document requests that ask about nonsense that the regulators themselves have no idea what they're talking about?

    – said Gerber, whose fund owns about $60 million worth of Tesla shares.

Expanding the “key role” and having even more influence

However, it remains to be seen whether Musk will be able to influence Trump's policies, particularly on electric vehicles and trade tariffs.

    Image

“It depends on whether Trump wants to listen to someone. Elon has a particularly delicate balance of countries he has to please, including China. It's a very delicate dance, and I may or may not do it well,” Gerber said.

Most conclusions predict that the close cooperation between Musk and Trump that has developed over the past year is likely to turn the tech billionaire, already a major figure in many industries, into a uniquely influential figure in the coming years.
